I verbi furono i prescelti.

Making a book, from design to printing, is a rather demanding undertaking and requires a great deal of time and energy.
Fortunately, it was not the first time. Only, in the past, I hadn’t used colours and, above all, I hadn’t mixed wood and metal types a lot. Above allI had not used the back of the wooden ones.
However, for a project taken from the Bisticci, it immediately seemed the best thing.
Rewind: Bisticci is a column edited by Federico Demartini, on Frizzifrizzi. Fede is a really good friend for some years now and we collaborate on some letterpress project (i.e. Letterpress Workers). So, when I decided to design a new book, it seemed obvious to me to turn to him for the contents.
Also because the texts of Bisticci are a perfect balance of lightness and sense, two excellent ingredients for my productions.
The problem was to find a common denominator, a thread between the pages, to create an edition worthy of the name. Verbs were the chosen ones. “Okay, I thought, we have overcome the most difficult obstacle”. I was wrong.
In fact, the real difficulty lay in the design which, when it comes to types, inevitably overflows into composition and printing.
In fact, to underline the basic idea, the wooden and lead characters began to quarrel with each other. The two materials, different and worn, obviously inked differently. To allof this, other problems, more technical, have been added, which have increased the production time. In the end, everything was solved and, even if the project, started in one way, has been slightly transformed, the 85 copies planned have come out.
